Judge Greg Mathis is accustomed to presiding over the courtroom, but he now faces his own legal challenge as his wife of 39 years, Linda Mathis (née Reese), has filed for divorce.
As reported by E! News based on court documents, Linda initiated the divorce proceedings on Thursday, August 22, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause. She is seeking spousal support from Greg while seeking to waive her own need for spousal support.
The official date of separation is noted as July 17.
Greg and Linda got married in June 1985 and have four children together: a daughter, Jade, born in May 1985; a daughter, Camara, born in October 1987; a son, Greg Jr., born in January 1989; and a son, Amir, born in July 1990. All of their children are adults, so there won’t be any custody or child support disputes.
The Mathis family was featured on the 2022 E! reality show Mathis Family Matters. One episode highlighted Greg receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with his family present to celebrate the occasion.
“Receiving the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is definitely my greatest professional accomplishment,” Greg expressed on the show, as per E!. “But I must say, it was truly my family that served as the foundation of my success.”
He also commended Linda, saying, “After coming from the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, five to six days a week. It was her support that enabled me to pursue the success you see.”
Linda echoed this sentiment, adding, “Our love and support run deep. That’s the Mathis family way.”
Greg, a former Michigan 36th District Court judge, is renowned for hosting Judge Mathis, which aired in syndication for 24 seasons from September 13, 1999 to May 25, 2023. Last fall, he brought back his show with Mathis Court With Judge Mathis.
