PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) β Authorities in Colorado are considering criminal charges against a man suspected of hitting a woman during a concert at the Colorado State Fair. The incident led country music star Scotty McCreery to halt his show and publicly address the alleged assailant from the stage.
In a video from the event, McCreery points into the crowd and stops the band, saying, βThat’s a lady you just hit sir. Absolutely not. Who just hit the lady?β
The North Carolina singer, known for his time on “American Idol,” called for police and security to assist the woman and make sure she was okay.
During the Saturday concert in Pueblo, Colorado, there were boos and chants from the audience as officials handled the situation. McCreery, 30, urged the crowd to identify the person responsible, calling the act of hitting a woman cowardly and demanding the alleged assailant to leave the premises.
Paramedics evaluated the woman on-site and she chose not to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, according to Olga Robak of the Colorado Agriculture Department.
The man was briefly detained but not arrested. Potential criminal charges are now in the hands of prosecutors, Robak mentioned.
