PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Authorities in Colorado are considering criminal charges against a man suspected of hitting a woman during a concert at the Colorado State Fair. The incident led country music star Scotty McCreery to stop his show and call out the alleged assailant from the stage.
“Right here, right here,” McCreery can be heard saying in a video from the event, as he points into the crowd and the band stops playing. “That’s a lady you just hit sir. Absolutely not. Who just hit the lady?”
The singer, known for his appearance on “American Idol,” called for police and security and ensured the woman’s well-being. The crowd reacted with booing and chanting as officials responded during the concert.
McCreery, 30, urged the audience to identify the responsible party, condemning the act as cowardly. The woman received medical evaluation on-site and declined to be taken to the hospital, according to Olga Robak with the Colorado Agriculture Department.
The man was briefly detained but not arrested, with potential criminal charges being considered by prosecutors, Robak stated.
