Following a week of intense wildfires in northeastern Wyoming, two large wildfires have now been contained after making significant progress due to strong winds.
The Remington fire, which spread into south-central Montana, covering 196,459 acres, is now 61% contained as of August 29. Crews worked diligently to extinguish hot spots near the initial fire location, approximately 14 miles northeast of Leiter, Wyoming.
Teams from the Southwest Area Incident Management team 5 have been actively patrolling the fire perimeter, mapping, and repairing containment lines while additional equipment like all-terrain vehicles are being provided for support.
Electric outages affected fewer than 20 residences in south-central Montana, with Tongue River Electric Cooperative reporting the need to replace about 100 poles and restore power to various structures and livestock-related facilities.
