Severe flooding in parts of typhoon-hit Vietnam has left thousands of people stranded on rooftops, with a death toll of 82 and many more missing. Typhoon Yagi struck on Saturday, bringing winds exceeding 149 kilometres per hour and torrential rain, causing unprecedented flooding as reported by locals.
Communities in Hanoi near the Red River were severely affected, with some individuals forced to evacuate by boat and warnings of further flooding in the capital. Phan Thi Tuyet, 50, shared her experience of losing everything due to the high water levels.
The storm caused widespread destruction, including downed bridges, damaged buildings, and flooded roads. Authorities reported 64 people still missing and issued flood and landslide warnings for multiple provinces.
Rescue operations were underway in affected areas, with residents seeking help and supplies on social media. Crops were also ravaged by the floods, impacting local markets.

Flooding and landslides have resulted in at least 752 injuries, with disruptions to transportation and power supply. The storm also impacted factories in the north, affecting production for global tech companies.
Japanese companies were particularly hit by the typhoon, with damage to infrastructure and suspensions in production. The storm’s toll extends to southern China and the Philippines, with a study linking more intense typhoons to climate change.
