HYSHAM, Mont. – A significant addition to the Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area has boosted recreational opportunities in Treasure County. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has acquired 414 acres, enhancing access for hunters, hikers, and anglers.
This new parcel brings the wildlife management area to over 15,000 acres and connects with land already managed by FWP. Its proximity to the Yellowstone River is a key advantage, providing access to this valuable resource.
Governor Greg Gianforte joined regional FWP Supervisor Brad Schmidts to celebrate the acquisition. During the event, they embarked on a hunt to mark the occasion. Gianforte emphasized the importance of increasing access in areas like the lower Yellowstone, which he termed “access deserts” along the river.
“I’m just so proud of the work FWP is doing to increase access particularly into this lower Yellowstone because it is such a tremendous resource and there are access deserts along the Yellowstone River. We have made it a priority to work with private landowners to find strategic access points and we are going to continue to do that because it opens up recreational opportunities for Montana it’s good for the local communities it’s good for habitat. Everyone wins,” Gianforte said.
FWP has been working with landowners in Hysham for the past six decades to create a thriving environment for both wildlife and agriculture.
