There was a stable condition reported for the tourists injured in an attack in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of three Spaniards and three Afghans, as per a hospital’s statement on Saturday. The survivors shared the horrifying experience of the shooting in an open market. The group had been targeted while shopping in the bazaar in the city of Bamiyan, around 180 kilometers from Kabul, on Friday.
Anne-France Brill, a French tourist who was part of the group, described how the gunman approached their vehicles and opened fire. She mentioned that the assailant seemed to be targeting foreigners. Brill, who resides near Paris, helped gather the belongings of the injured travelers before they were escorted to Kabul by the Taliban and later taken in by a European Union delegation.
The attack is believed to be the first deadly assault on foreign tourists since the Taliban regained power in 2021. The injured, including individuals from Spain, Lithuania, Norway, Australia, and Afghanistan, were transported to a hospital in Kabul. The most critically injured was an Afghan national, but all patients were reported to be in stable condition.

Bamiyan is Afghanistan’s top tourist destination, attracting visitors to see the giant Buddha statues that were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. Despite a decrease in bombings and attacks since the Taliban took control, the country still faces security threats from groups like ISIS. These groups have targeted foreign interests, including embassies and businessmen, in an attempt to destabilize the Taliban government.
