Here is the final installment of Replays’ 5-part series on the local area’s greatest wrestlers – from Class AA Helena and Capital Highs, and Class B/C Townsend and Jefferson – spanning the 68 years of the sanctioned prep sport in the Treasure State. Criteria for those profiled consists of State champions, 4-time All-Staters, 2-time State finalists, undefeated regular seasons, College champions, significant school record-holders and those performing historical “first” accomplishments. This segment covers 2013 to 2024.
Rob Smartnick (Jefferson, 2009-12) set the school’s career wins record at 137-53 and also tied the season wins (42-10) and career pins (101) marks, while garnering a B/C All-State medal his junior year at 215 and the Southern Division 189 crown as a senior.
