MISSOULA — Recently, the Missoula Police Department released their annual report, which Police Chief Michael Colyer presented to the Missoula City Council on May 22nd.
The report indicated a decrease in violent crimes and crashes, but showed an increase in other incidents. There has been a significant rise in fentanyl seizures over the past year, leading to inquiries from City Council members.
During the presentation, Bob Campbell inquired about encounters with illicit drugs during routine traffic enforcement, apart from the efforts of the drug task force in Missoula County.
Furthermore, the report highlighted the department’s handling of complaints and their commitment to transparency and accountability. Colyer emphasized the importance of conveying a clear and consistent image of the department to the community and council.
Following the police report, members of the Missoula Fire Department’s Mobile Support Team discussed their progress and growth since their establishment in 2020. Operations Manager John Petroff shared that the team responded to nearly 2000 calls last year, with 60% of them involving housed individuals.
The team outlined their future goals, which include securing long-term funding, acquiring office space, and enhancing training opportunities.
