BUTTE — A late winter storm presented a challenge for travelers on I-90 in the eastbound lanes near Homestake Pass on May 23.
Seeing the stagnant traffic on the interstate, a kind Samaritan took action by placing a large sign in her yard offering assistance to anyone in need.
“It’s unusual for the highway to be backed up for such a long time. While we have seen traffic stop before, this duration is uncommon,” stated Suba Ganesan, a resident near the interstate.
She displayed a sign with her phone number to help motorists stuck on the closed interstate for hours.
“My goal is to assist those stuck on the highway,” Suba mentioned. From the overpass, another motorist was observed maneuvering through traffic.
“I am concerned about the driver trying to navigate through. I wonder if they need help or are in trouble. I am willing to lend a hand,” Ganesan expressed. The driver squeezed between two semi trucks with one honking at them.
The Montana Department of Transportation cautioned travelers about road closures at 7 a.m. By 11 a.m., traffic started moving again with an electronic board advising drivers to be mindful of their speed in wintry conditions.
Having grown up in the Mining City and experienced late spring snowstorms, how does Ganesan feel about the weather? “I am thrilled about the snow. My kids and I were out early playing in it, as we enjoy the snow,” Ganesan shared.
