During his speech at West Point, Biden reiterated his commitment to not deploying American troops to Ukraine while acknowledging the critical role they play in supporting and training Ukrainian forces. He praised the military for thwarting Putin’s aggressive plans and assisting Israel during recent attacks from Iran.
Prior to the cadets taking their commissioning oaths, Biden reminded them of their allegiance to the Constitution over individual leaders or political parties. He encouraged the graduates to uphold the values instilled in them at West Point, especially amidst the current political discord in the country.
Biden emphasized the importance of defending ideas and freedoms, noting the progress made in reducing sexual assault and harassment in the military while acknowledging the need for further improvement.
As part of the graduation ceremony tradition, Biden personally congratulated each graduate, absolving them of minor infractions with a light-hearted comment about the definition of “minor” offenses.
