Montana’s Republican congressional delegates are denouncing the recent conviction of former President Donald Trump by a New York City jury as unjust. Trump was found guilty Thursday on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to an adult film star.
U.S. Sen. Steve Daines criticized the verdict as “a sham,” suggesting it was politically motivated. He also alleged bias on the part of the presiding judge, who had made a donation to Democrats in 2020.
Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Matt Rosendale from Montana shared similar sentiments, with Zinke labeling the verdict as a blemish on the American justice system and Rosendale likening it to election interference, given Trump’s status as the top Republican presidential candidate.
On the other hand, Montana’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, who is up for reelection this year, emphasized the importance of respecting the judicial process and ensuring fairness for all individuals. He stated that voters will have the final say on Trump in November.
