Gary Johnson, a local college professor, seeks a side job in Hit Man, released on Netflix on June 7. His life takes a dramatic turn as he becomes a fake hitman for the police, tasked with catching individuals planning murders. Gary adopts different personas for each case, fully immersing himself in new roles.
One of these personas is the charming and seductive Ron, whose confidence could disarm even the toughest criminal. Ron meets Madison (Adria Arjona), a potential criminal, and they quickly become entangled in a passionate romance. Ron and Madison’s dance around the truth amplifies their undeniable chemistry, creating an alluring film experience. Glen Powell, who co-wrote the film with director Richard Linklater, discussed Ron and Madison’s captivating romance with TV Insider.
“If this is a contemplation on identity and passion, he’s transitioning from a logical, thoughtful character to someone who lives for thrills and danger. She adds that element to his character,” Powell explained about Ron’s dynamic with Madison. “When it comes to the intimacy in the film, sex scenes are often detached from the plot or directed in a way that doesn’t engage the audience. But in this movie, the intimacy is essential to the characters’ evolution and falling in love.”
As Powell and Linklater delved into the “erotic thriller” aspect of Hit Man, they recognized its rarity in modern cinema. “It requires authentic chemistry,” Powell noted. The Anyone But You actor emphasized the importance of Arjona’s contribution to Ron and Madison’s romantic journey, stating that her perspective enhanced the scenes significantly.
Hit Man, currently in select theaters, premieres on Netflix on June 7.
