COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The new coach stressed the importance of focusing on the details to her team.
This message was embraced by the players.
Emma Hayes made a successful start with the U.S. women’s national team, with Mallory Swanson and Tierna Davidson each scoring twice in a 4-0 victory over South Korea in a friendly match on Saturday.
The U.S. team found their groove by executing the little things. This strategy led to goals from Swanson and Davidson in both halves.
“We are building something here,” Hayes stated. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s a positive beginning.”
During the match, Hayes could be seen pacing along the coaching box, applauding goals and discussing strategies with assistant coach Twila Kilgore.
