An expert notes that Israel’s previous attempts to cultivate a local alternative to Hamas in Gaza have been unsuccessful.

Prosecutors intend to drop charges against the Minnesota trooper who shot motorist Ricky Cobb.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Prosecutors plan to dismiss murder and manslaughter charges against a Minnesota state trooper who fatally shot a motorist as he attempted to flee from a traffic stop. The decision to drop the charges comes after Trooper Ryan Londregan’s legal team argued that he believed the suspect was reaching for a firearm. The Hennepin County attorney cited newly released evidence that makes it difficult to demonstrate that Londregan’s actions were unauthorized. Londregan, a white officer, shot 33-year-old Ricky Cobb II twice as the Black man tried to drive away after troopers instructed him to exit his vehicle last July.
