An overnight shooting in Ohio resulted in one fatality and injuries to two dozen individuals on Saturday.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight near Kelly and 8th Avenues in Akron, south of Cleveland.
While a 27-year-old man was found dead, his identity has not been disclosed.
No arrests have been made yet, and the police have not named a suspect.
Prior to the shooting, a street party was taking place in the area, as reported by a witness on the scene to Scripps News Cleveland, where hundreds of people were enjoying themselves before the shots were fired.
Upon investigation, law enforcement discovered numerous bullet casings and a single firearm at the scene. Photos taken by Scripps News Cleveland Photojournalist Mike Vielhaber depict police with a minimum of 38 evidence markers on the ground.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, seven patients were admitted to the hospital early Sunday morning, with one in critical condition.
The hospital was on hard lockdown from just past midnight until about 3:30 a.m.
Summa Health reports receiving 15 patients this morning, with 13 having non-life-threatening injuries. Some have been discharged, but one remains in critical condition.
Summa Health spokesperson, Mike Bernstein, expressed gratitude to first responders and caregivers for their efforts in assisting patients and the community.
A joint statement from Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Akron Police Chief Brian Harding addressed the shooting on Sunday morning:
“Today, our city is in shock after a senseless act of violence resulted in over two dozen victims. The pain and trauma resonate throughout Akron as we seek answers. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
We are committed to holding those responsible accountable, and we call on our community for assistance. Anyone with information about this tragic event needs to come forward to prevent further violence. This can be done anonymously.
In the coming days, we will provide more details about this terrible incident. Safety remains our top priority, and we are dedicated to ending gun violence in our community.”
