Yellowstone National Park has reported that an 83-year-old woman was attacked by a bison near the Storm Point Trail at Yellowstone Lake on Saturday.
According to a park press release, the woman from Greenville, South Carolina, sustained serious injuries during the attack. The bison was said to be defending its territory, getting within a few feet of the woman and lifting her about a foot off the ground with its horns.
The injured woman was initially taken to the Lake Medical Clinic and was later airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Details about the woman’s current condition have not been disclosed, and her identity was not revealed in the release.
The incident is currently under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
