The-Dream, a musician and producer known for creating hits with artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna, is facing a lawsuit from a former protégé accusing him of sex trafficking, sexual battery, and rape.
The plaintiff, Chanaaz Mangroe, also known as Channii Monroe, alleged in the lawsuit filed on Tuesday that The-Dream led her into an abusive and manipulative relationship, filled with physical assaults, violent sexual encounters, and psychological manipulation, under the false promise of helping her secure a recording and publishing contract.
Mangroe claims that the producer frequently strangled her, forced her into sexual acts, and used recordings of their intimate encounters to silence her. The lawsuit also implicates The-Dream’s record label, Contra Paris LLC, and Epic Records, alleging that they facilitated his depraved behavior.
In response to the allegations, The-Dream denied the claims, calling them untrue and defamatory.
Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, known as The-Dream, is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer behind major hits for artists like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber.
In her lawsuit, Mangroe detailed instances where The-Dream pressured her into sexual activities and manipulated her into believing she needed him for success in the music industry. She recounted violent encounters and coercive behavior that left her dependent on him for food and shelter.
Mangroe alleges that The-Dream’s actions, in which the record labels were complicit, amounted to sex trafficking, from which they all financially benefited.
Similar allegations have been made against Sean “Diddy” Combs, highlighting a pattern of abuse and manipulation by powerful figures in the music industry.
Despite the challenges she faced, Mangroe is speaking out to seek justice and prevent further abuse. She hopes that sharing her story will help others and bring accountability to the industry.
She is pursuing a monetary judgment for damages related to the alleged abuse suffered at the hands of The-Dream.
