Suzanne Collins is adding depth to the phrase “Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem Forever.”
The author of the popular “Hunger Games” series is expanding the Panem universe with a new book, set in the dystopian world where tributes from 12 poorer districts fight to the death each year for the entertainment of the wealthy Capitol.
The fifth book in the series, titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” will be released by Scholastic on March 18, 2025. Fans can also look forward to a movie adaptation, set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, announced by Lionsgate shortly after the book news.
The new movie, to be directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, will take viewers back 24 years before the first novel, focusing on the 50th Hunger Games and the Second Quarter Quell.
This significant event marked when Haymitch Abernathy became District 12’s first victor and mentor to future tributes like Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.
The upcoming story promises to delve deeper into the history of the games and will be eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide.
Collins’ latest book and film follow the success of “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” a prequel released in 2023 exploring the origins of Panem’s tyrannical leader, Coriolanus Snow.
With the previous film adaptations raking in over $3.3 billion worldwide, the hunger for more stories from Panem shows no sign of slowing down.
