A National Women’s Soccer League club is poised to set a new attendance record for a U.S. professional soccer game.
Karen Leetzow, the president of the Chicago Red Stars, spoke with Scripps News from Wrigley Field in Chicago, where the record-breaking event is expected to take place. Her team will play against Bay FC on Saturday night, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the match will be broadcast on Ion.

The venue is anticipating a turnout of up to 40,000 fans for the game.
This will be the first major women’s sporting event held at Wrigley Field since the Women’s Baseball League, depicted in the film “A League of Their Own,” played a historic game there in 1943.
The surge of interest in women’s sports is evident, and the Chicago Red Stars are leveraging this momentum.
Leetzow has been advocating for the team to move from the suburbs, where they share facilities for locker rooms and practices, to the city in order to increase their presence among sports fans.
