MISSOULA — Montana hoopers traded the hardwood for the blacktop this past weekend as the state’s largest three-on-three basketball tournament returned to Missoula.
The Garden City Shootout commemorated its 30th anniversary, attracting hundreds of basketball players from across the state and nation to compete.
The proceeds from the tournament support various non-profits, including the City Life Community Center in Missoula.
Jaton Simpson, the tournament’s organizer, emphasized that the players’ passion for the game sustains this event.
“It’s all about the atmosphere. The kids come out with a great attitude, eager to play basketball because they love the game. Sometimes we forget that,” Simpson commented.
“Throughout the years, some players have treated this tournament as their path to the NBA, although we know that’s not the reality for everyone. However, for those who come to compete, this is an opportunity to develop their skills and unleash their competitive spirit on the blacktop rather than just the court.”
Simpson also expressed his appreciation for the continuous support the tournament has received over the years.
“With so many events taking place, we are grateful that people continue to back this tournament along with the entire basketball community.”
Representatives from the Garden City Shootout will be present at Hoopfest in Spokane from June 29-30.
