GEARHART, Ore. — A huge rare fish, typically found in temperate waters in the southern hemisphere, washed up on Oregon’s northern coast, attracting crowds of curious onlookers.
The 7.3-foot hoodwinker sunfish was spotted on the beach in Gearhart by the Seaside Aquarium. The aquarium announced in a media release that it was still on the beach as of Friday and might linger there for weeks. Its tough skin makes it challenging for scavengers to penetrate.
