Due to heavy rain and a waterlogged outfield, the T20 World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Nepal in Florida was abandoned on Tuesday.
This decision resulted in Group D leaders South Africa, who have won all three of their games, being the first team to advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
The rain persisted throughout the day with flood warnings in effect in the region. However, a brief break in the weather prompted ground staff to start efforts to dry the field.
Despite the efforts of the ground staff, after an hour of attempting to remove the standing water, officials decided to call off the game, leading to the teams sharing the points. This was disappointing for the large Nepalese fan base at the Central Broward Stadium.
Sri Lanka, after losing their first two games against South Africa and Bangladesh, are now facing potential elimination from the competition.
Nepal, on the other hand, had lost their opening game to the Netherlands.
South Africa currently leads Group D with a perfect six points from three matches, while Bangladesh and the Netherlands each have two points from two games.
