A fresh super-champion has risen to the occasion on Jeopardy!. In the latest episode, Adriana Harmeyer achieved an impressive 11-game winning streak, placing her among some of the greatest to ever play the game — a total of 17 champions. The question now is, how far can she go?
As the season progresses, we will have to wait and see the extent of Harmeyer’s streak. For now, she has accumulated $258,700 in cash winnings, ranking her 15th in all-time Jeopardy! regular play earnings. She has certainly shattered the supposed curse of the season!
Her competition in this episode included Enzo Cunanan, a student from Orlando, Florida.
In the first round, Harmeyer outperformed her co-competitors Cunanan and attorney Connor Townsend. She answered twice as many questions correctly as Cunanan and carried a lead of $7,600 into Double Jeopardy, with Cunanan trailing at $4,000 and Townsend at $2,000.
Cunanan managed to narrow the gap in the second round, especially after correctly guessing the Daily Double. However, Harmeyer found a Daily Double of her own and maintained her lead by swiftly answering questions.
Heading into Final Jeopardy, Harmeyer was in the lead with $20,600, closely followed by Cunanan at $16,400 and Townsend at $9,600.
In the end, Harmeyer emerged victorious by wagering just enough in Final Jeopardy to secure her win. Both she and Cunanan correctly answered the final clue, and Harmeyer’s total winnings amounted to $33,000, surpassing Cunanan’s total of $31,400.
With this win, Harmeyer has joined the elite group of 11-game winners.
On Reddit, fans celebrated her victory, with some predicting her success in future tournaments. Others pondered her potential to compete against legendary players like James Holzhauer, Yogesh Raut, and Victoria Groce.
Only time will tell if Adriana Harmeyer can maintain her winning streak and reach 12 games (or more) in the next episode!
