Apple is facing a lawsuit from two employees who are alleging gender discrimination.
Two women have filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in San Francisco state court, as reported by Reuters, which aims to cover over 12,000 current and former female employees in California. The lawsuit claims that Apple pays women less than their male counterparts for the same work and asserts that the company’s performance review system is biased against women, resulting in lower salaries.

The plaintiffs allege that Apple has violated California’s Equal Pay Act, which mandates equal pay for employees who perform ‘substantially similar work,’ considering skill, effort, and responsibility. Apple, in a statement to Reuters, defended its commitment to pay equity regardless of gender.
“Every year, we work with an independent third-party expert to review each team member’s total compensation and make adjustments, as needed, to ensure pay equity,” the company stated.
The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages and penalties in the lawsuit.
