Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers recently appeared on “The Race Weekend” for a detailed conversation about politics in Michigan.
Michigan supported former President Trump in 2016, but Joe Biden won the state in 2020. Since the early 2000s, the state has not elected a Republican to the Senate.
“What steps do Republicans need to take before November to win Michigan — not just at the presidential level, but also in electing a Republican to the Senate?” Joe St. George of Scripps News asked Rogers.
“Michigan is currently suffering under the Biden misery index more than any other state,” Rogers remarked. He also highlighted the impact of fentanyl in the state, making Michigan akin to a border state.
“By 2024, the costliest vehicle to operate in Michigan will be your grocery cart,” Rogers stated. He emphasized that political apathy is a significant challenge in the state.

Rogers has been critical of Trump in the past. In 2018, he criticized Trump’s view of Vladimir Putin and labeled his political tactics as “destructive.”
On Jan. 5, 2021, Rogers penned an op-ed in the Washington Post advocating for the recognition of a fair election. Despite their differences, Trump has endorsed Rogers for the Republican nomination.
