France superstar and captain Kylian Mbappe on Sunday declared himself “against extremes and divisive ideas” when asked about crucial upcoming legislative elections in the country.
When it comes to the important elections in France, Mbappe did not take sides and emphasized the need to avoid extreme and divisive thinking. The first round will be held on June 30 followed by the second round on July 7.
Although Mbappe did not explicitly support any political party, he defended his teammate Marcus Thuram’s remarks made on Saturday. Thuram had called for efforts to prevent the far-right National Rally (RN) from winning the elections, with Mbappe stating that he supported Thuram’s stance.
Speaking at a press conference in Duesseldorf ahead of France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria, Mbappe highlighted the importance of being aware of the current political situation in the country.
Mbappe stressed that as citizens, it is crucial to participate in the elections and make informed decisions for the future of France. He encouraged young people to vote and stand up for values of diversity and tolerance.
As far-right parties gained significant votes in the recent EU elections, President Emmanuel Macron called for a snap poll for the National Assembly. Mbappe expressed his opposition to extreme and divisive ideas, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right path for the country’s future.
He urged young people to be conscious of the urgency of the situation and not overlook the significance of their participation in the electoral process.
Mbappe also emphasized the importance of standing up for values and not shying away from political discourse, especially in critical times like these.
Despite the focus on the upcoming elections, Mbappe is determined to represent his country with pride on the football field, reflecting the values he holds dear.
After Marcus Thuram’s comments drew attention, the French Football Federation made a statement calling for the team to be free from political pressure and manipulation. They emphasized the importance of maintaining neutrality and focusing on the game ahead.
