Reports from local media state that a missing American tourist has been discovered deceased on a beach on a small Greek island located west of Corfu.
The body of the individual was found on a rocky and relatively remote beach on Mathraki island by another tourist on Sunday. The man had been reported missing on Thursday by a Greek-American friend who was hosting him.
Last seen on Tuesday at a cafe in the company of two female tourists who have since left the island, no further information about the victim, such as name or hometown, has been immediately provided.
Mathraki, a heavily wooded island with a population of 100, spans 1.2 square miles and is situated west of the more popular Corfu island.
This incident is the most recent in a series of cases involving tourists going missing or losing their lives on Greek islands. Some of these incidents involve individuals embarking on hikes in extremely hot weather conditions.

The missing tourist has been identified by U.S. media as retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Albert Calibet from Hermosa Beach, California.
