What This Is

406AF is Montana's news and culture outlet for people who actually live here. We cover real Montana news — politics, outdoors, housing, wildlife, weather, sports — and we also run a satire section for when reality isn't absurd enough on its own. Which, in Montana, is rare.

We also sell shirts you'll either love or get yelled at for wearing at Thanksgiving dinner. That's the merch arm.

Why This Exists

Because Montana deserves better internet content than sunset photos and “Big Sky Country” coffee mugs. The internet is full of Montana content made by people who visited Glacier once and now have a podcast. We're here for the people who stayed through February, who know what a Hutterite colony is, and who have a strong opinion about which pass is the worst in winter.

What “406” Means

406 is Montana's one and only area code. The whole state. All 147,040 square miles. While other states are splitting into 12 area codes like they're going through a divorce, Montana stays one code. One people. One deeply questionable sense of humor.

The “AF” part? You already know what that means.

Who's Behind This

406AF is a production of Silverface Holdings LLC. We're a small crew of Montanans who got tired of doom-scrolling and decided to make the content we wanted to see. We're not a media conglomerate. We're not backed by venture capital. We're just some people with internet access and a chip on our shoulder about how Bozeman used to be affordable.
